The day of Atonement

The Day of Atonement known in Hebrew starts on Wednesday 1st October,  2025, evening at sundown and lasts until Thursday evening at Sundown.

This is day in which Adonai according to Torah instructs us to fast.

Leviticus 16:29, 23:27, and Numbers 29:7, which instruct the people to “afflict your souls” on the tenth day of the seventh month. This “affliction” has been understood by Jewish tradition to include abstaining from food and drink (fasting) as well as other forms of self-denial, to focus on repentance and atonement for sins.

Leviticus 16:29: “On the tenth day of the seventh month you shall humble yourselves and fast.”

Leviticus 23:27: “On the tenth day of that seventh month shall be the day of atonement. It shall be for you a holy convocation; you shall afflict your souls and offer an offering by fire to the Lord.”

Numbers 29:7: “And you shall have on the tenth day of the seventh month a holy convocation. You shall afflict yourselves; you shall do no work.”
